What is the GRE?
The GRE is a standardized online test that is used to assess candidates applying to graduate and Ph.D. programs in the Sciences and Humanities. Questions are mathematical and linguistic.
The test’s main characteristic is that it adjusts the level of difficulty per question group based on a candidate’s performance in previous questions of a similar nature.
How does one prepare for the GRE?
Preparation for the GRE lasts between 8-10 weeks, and it is divided into two phases. The first phase lasts 8 weeks, during which time candidates attend one three-hour Quantitative lesson and one three-hour Verbal lesson per week. Through the lessons and many many practice exercises, candidates develop their critical thinking, as well as their problem-solving, and reading comprehension skills.
During the second phase, candidates familiarize themselves with the test format by taking simulation tests. Thanks to systematic practice and the close monitoring of their performance by their instructors, candidates can identify areas of improvement.
In order for candidates to achieve a high test score, it is crucial that they maintain a good balance between the various test sections throughout the entire preparation period.
Following the two preparation phases and the necessary practical application of the skills acquired via simulation tests, candidates are now ready to take the GRE.
Which programs require a GRE score?
The GRE is a more general test that is a requirement for a wide range of graduate programs. It is designed to evaluate a candidate’s ability to grapple with a broad spectrum of fields, including the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities.

Some of these fields are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, and so on. When and where can I take the GRE exam?
In Greece, there is one group in charge of GRE exams, the Professional Services Center (Lagoumintzi 24, Kallithea, 17671). You can book an exam session online via their official website (https://www.ets.org/gre). The GRE certification exam takes place on many different dates, and you can choose between taking the exam in person at a test center or remotely, provided you have a stable internet connection.
Can I ask for extra exam time?
Yes, you can apply for extra exam time if you have special needs due to learning difficulties, disability, health problems or similar issues that impact your test-taking ability. You will need to submit your application to the ETS, along with any documents, medical or otherwise, that are relevant to your claim. The ETS will then examine your application and inform you of any adjustments they are willing to make to the exam procedure, such as giving you extra time. All concessions are made on a case-by-case basis.
Is the GRE computer-adaptive?
Yes, the Verbal & Quantitative Reasoning sections of the GRE are computer-adaptive, which means that the level of difficulty of the second section is affected by your performance in the first section.
When do the GRE results come out?
You can review your unofficial results directly after completing the test. You will receive the official test results within 10-15 days after the examination.
Does the GRE have a passing score?
The GRE does not have a pass or fail score. Each university sets its own standard in terms of what is considered a high score, and this can vary depending on the study program you are applying to.

Grading system
